The wine of noble Florentine families

The city of Florence is surrounded by soft hills dotted with hunting lodges and country residences where the Florentine nobles once produced wine for the city’s tables. Since 1932 these renowned areas are officially recognised as Chianti, and since 1994 the Chianti Colli Fiorentini Consortium has protected their production with strict regulations to preserve the quality of the DOCG wines produced here. Villa Corliano, which rises on the slopes at the gates of Florence, continues this centuries-old tradition: its fine Chianti wines make it an integral and authoritative exponent of the Consortium .

An eventful September

The season is about to end and the worries due to the weather of the previous months give way to a reasoned optimism. In September the harvest will begin and, thanks to the spring rains and the sunny summer days, promises to be of the highest quality. But September is also important for us for another key event; our first participation in Canada at the International Gourmet Food Montréal where we hope that our hard work done in all these years both in the vineyard and in the cellar will be recognized. Warm up the senses, lift the glasses and good wine to all!

Villa Corliano’s Chianti at International Gourmet Food Montréal

Chianti is the iconic wine of the Tuscan tradition and one of the most famous wine in the world. The denomination of origin Chianti DOCG includes the types Chianti, Chianti Superiore and Chianti Riserva, with reference to the production areas: Chianti Colli Aretini, Chianti Colli Fiorentini, Chianti Colli Senesi, Chianti Colline Pisane, Chianti Montalbano, Chianti Montespertoli and Chianti Rufina. The denomination Chianti Colli Fiorentini stands out among the others because it represents one of the most important wine producing areas of Tuscany and it is here, on the gentle hills at the gates of Florence, that Villa Corliano’s Chianti, Chianti Briccole and the Chianti Briccole Riserva are produced. These two great-value wines have been selected together with Ghirigoro, an IGT of authentic Tuscan breed, to participate in the 4th Annual International Gourmet Food Montréal. For the first time Villa Corliano will be in Canada and this is therefore an opportunity not to be missed to discover a quality Tuscan small company and taste wines that will amaze you with their refined character and marked personality.

The quality of the grapes forewarns a great vintage

This year the vineyards have shown again their strength in front of a weather that has put them to the test. First the winter drought, then a rainy spring and finally a scorching summer, but Tuscany, and in particular the Chianti Colli Fiorentini area, once again proved to be lands suited to the cultivation of grapes. This year’s climate has been characterized by an extremely cold and dry winter, with virtually no rain, which slowed the vine vegetation. The winter drought was followed by a rainy spring end which fortunately rebalanced the water supply, especially in the clay and medium textured soils. In the vineyards of Villa Corliano, thanks to their exposure, the grapes are in good health. There are no phytosanitary issues and hot temperatures of these days are not a problem, as the two thunderstorms of July have created the ideal conditions for an excellent vintage. Maturation is actually more and more constant. Even if the coming weeks will be decisive, we can already say that the 2019 vintage will be very positive, especially in terms of quality, and that we can therefore count it among the vintages to remember.
